Abstract	Repair and rehabilitation of the five-hundred-twelve existing rubble-mound structures within the US Army Corps of Engineers is becoming increasingly important because many structures have deteriorated to the extent of imparing their design function. Also performance criteria have increased at many sites but because of curtailment of new construction, structures at these sites will have to be upgraded to perform expanded design functions. Technology for repairing, evaluating, maintaining, and rehabilitating existing structures is usually not the same as for new construction. This paper describes work that is being done under the Repair, Evaluation, Maintenance, and Rehabilitation (REMR) Research Program to develop methods for improving maintenance techniques and extending the life of rubble-mound breakwaters and jetties.
