| Abstract | The upwelling mantle within the Banda Sea is modeled using computer visualization techniques. The Banda Sea is considered a triple junction of the Pacific, Australian, and Eurasian Plates within the plate tectonic hypothesis. Evaluation of mantle depths from gravity and seismic studies indicates upwelling of mantle from approximately 30-40 km under the continental shelf of Australia to 21 km in the Banda Arc. From here the mantle rises to 14 km within the Weber Deep and finally reaches a depth of 7 km in the North Banda Sea. Seismic epicenter data delineate spatial boundaries of flow regimes and define magmatic migration routes. Epicenter magnitudes are visualized in 3 dimensions by color-coding. Topographic and bathymetric data from in-house sources define geographic position and geomorphology of the model domain, while altimetry data delineate the gravity field associated with a component of mantle dynamics using contour lines or interpolated color fields. Conceptual animation portrays upwelling and divergence of mantle flow structures (geostreams) underlying the tectonic trends of the region and the resulting counterflow within the volcanic arcs based on the surge tectonic hypothesis. This animation uses a series of color-coded arrows and particle systems to represent these flow structures in motion. Induced micro-gravity oscillations in the triple junction may be caused by planetary gravity waves. This phenomena is explored to determine the coupling effects with the atmospheric pressure flux of the Southern Oscillation, which modulates El Nino. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDLI provides user group-specific services such as Examination Preparatory for School and College students and job aspirants. Services for Researchers and general learners are also provided. NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
