Abstract	This paper describes plans, technical scopes, and topics for the first "open" U.S./Russia workshop on Ocean Technology to be held in Moscow in April 1996. Russia has been very active and made great strides in marine, maritime, and naval technology, especially during the preceding decades as part of the Soviet Union. A cooperative workshop is long overdue and presents a good opportunity to provide the groundwork needed for long-term cooperation. Workshop plans, initiated in 1991 through NSF and NOAA collaboration, were ultimately funded through a proposal grant by NSF in 1994. The major topics to be covered are: environmental remote sensing, hydroacoustic systems and methods, oceanographic instrumentation, and underwater vehicles and systems. The objective is to identify and develop areas of mutual interest for cooperative projects in research and development with an emphasis on government-academic-industry partnerships.
