NDLI: Time Lagged Location-Based Routing in Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks

Abstract	Hong Kong University of ScieMany location based routing algorithms have been proposed for data delivery in VANETs, most of which rely on the availability of accurate location information. In practice, however, such information can hardly be available or can incur considerable cost in retrieving the accurate location information of moving vehicles. Furthermore, such location information obtained is usually delayed or time lagged since vehicles are moving all the time. In this paper, we propose a new routing algorithm, called time-lagged location-based routing algorithm. The main novelty is that the routing algorithm only requires lagged location infor-mation, which makes it more practical. In order to compensate for the inaccuracies in the location information, we propose a location predictor that estimates the trajectory of vehicles based on historical information. We demonstrate that the proposed routing algorithm can significantly improve the data delivery performance based on extensive evaluations from both simulation and a large set of real world traces obtained from taxi in Shang-hai, China.nce and Technology
