Abstract	Three European COST Projects have successfully stimulated research on topical concerns on tropospheric radiowave propagation. These have led to reports and expertise relevant to system planning in Europe and to world-wide planning through contributions to ITU-R (and previously CCIR). Currently, a fourth, COST Project 235, has been investigating constraints and opportunities for radiowave propagation on future digital and millimetre-wave systems, primarily for fixed terrestrial systems. It has been examining effects of frequency-selective fading (e.g. due to multipath propagation) and due to non-frequency-selective fading (e.g. due to atmospheric gases, precipitation and scintillation), and site shielding and other interference reduction strategies. Two interim reports have been produced. The project is essentially committed to meeting user requirements. Mention is also made of a future planned project.
