| Abstract | We introduce the asynchronous channel as a model for a continuous time asynchronous communication system. The asynchronous channel can be used as a model for information storage systems such as magnetic recording systems and CD players, or communication systems in which the transmitter and the receiver have no common clock. Let S(t) and V(t) be the input signal and the output signal of the channel respectively, which are related by V(t)=S(/spl tau/), where /spl tau/(t)=/spl int//sub 0//sup t/ r(u)du and r(u) is a positive function of u, u/spl ges/0. We assume that S(0)=V(0), i.e., the input and the output are synchronized to start with. The asynchronous channel is noiseless in the sense that it only compresses or stretches the input signal in the time domain without changing its values. In our model, we assume that S(t) is a step function which takes values from a finite alphabet /spl chi/={0, 1, 2,..., p-1}. An interval on which S(t) takes a constant value is called a run, and the lengths of runs are called runlengths. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDLI provides user group-specific services such as Examination Preparatory for School and College students and job aspirants. Services for Researchers and general learners are also provided. NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
