Abstract	A good health can yield a productive and innovative society. This study aims to investigate the construct validity of mental health and vitality within Short Form 36 (SF-36) when the instrument is applied to the selected Malaysian academicians as well as to identify which items in mental health and vitality find more or less difficulty endorsed among the academicians with various socio demographics backgrounds on their health-related quality of life (HRQoL). The SF-36 was disseminated to 393 lectures. After removing misfit person, infit statistics ranged over 0.69 to 1.24 adduced all the items belong to the construct. The item difficulty logits for mental health and vitality dimensions ranged over 2.23 to −3.06. The measurement properties of these two dimensions were found to be satisfactory. Despite the academicians got bogged down by the hectic routine yet the academicians still manage to savor their lives.
