| Abstract | A wireless ad-hoc network is an autonomous system of wireless routers, fixed or mobile those communicate with each other via radio links without the support of any fixed wired infrastructure. In such a topology, communication is achieved by use of multiple hop paths between the sender and the receiver. Wireless ad-hoc networks constitute a typical paradigm of networks whose performance and operability depends crucially on battery power. In this paper, we study and compare the performance of three ad-hoc routing protocols in a network where each participating mobile node has a given battery life and will shutdown when a threshold is reached. The first protocol uses a simple energy metric to choose routes called MTPR (Minimum Total Transmission Power Routing), represented by the total energy consumed to forward the information along the route. The second routing metric considers both node hop-count and node energy consumption called AODVM (AODV Modified) which is based upon the on-demand ad hoc routing protocol AODV and the minimum remaining energy. The third ad hoc protocol exploits the remaining battery capacity of each node and the delay parameter in the route selection process. We call it DRE-AOMDV (Delay Remaining Energy-AOMDV). The simulations have shown that MTPR have a dramatic decrease in performance with mobility. However the DRE-AOMDV and AODVM are perform very well when mobility is high. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDLI provides user group-specific services such as Examination Preparatory for School and College students and job aspirants. Services for Researchers and general learners are also provided. NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
