Abstract	In order to solve the wear problem in terms of quality there is need for an experienced expert with a lengthy experience. Such valuable persons in practice are regularly missing and their schooling is lengthy and expensive. Also one of the problems which appear is the transfer of the knowledge from the experienced experts onto the less-experienced experts. Because of the faster industry development the knowledge transfer should be as fast and of quality as possible, what is not easy to achieve. In order to transfer the knowledge more quickly onto the large number of people, i.e. large number of less-experienced experts within that field at FMENA there are significant efforts for materials' data bases organization and development of expert systems for materials' selection, which have lasted for some time now. The problem area of the abrasion wear is briefly described in this paper together with the basic possibilities of the ABRex expert system, which resolves those problems.
