Abstract	During the design of a system it is very important to achieve a correct and comprehensible structure; a system that cannot be understood cannot be managed. Although methodologies to do so exist, but the object oriented approach for modelling the network management systems is of special interest, because the resources that need to be managed map naturally into objects. This paper outlines the results of a project that used object oriented methodology to structure a communication network, involving not only the physical equipment but also the rest of the components that are active or passive, such as cabling plant, users, rooms and all other elements. The paper goes through the steps used in the object oriented analysis and design, based on the identification of objects and attributes, construction of the inheritance and containment trees, and design of the relationships between the objects.
