| Description | System reliability performance is usually based on average customer-interruption indices. The average values are valuable information, but provide only a single customer risk dimension without the underlying probability distributions. The average annual indices give no insight as to how reliability may vary from year to year as a result of the random behaviour of a bulk electric system. Reliability-index probability distributions, therefore, provide additional valuable information and a more complete understanding of composite power system behaviour. A significant advantage when utilizing sequential Monte Carlo simulation in bulk electric system reliability analysis is the ability to provide reliability-index probability distributions in addition to the expected values of their indices. This paper illustrates the development of probability distributions for bulk electric system reliability performance indices using sequential simulation. The results obtained using the developed software show that the system performance-index probability distributions have unique characteristics that are basically dependent on the system topology, operating philosophy and conditions. System conditions such as the peak load level and system reinforcement options have significant impacts on the performance-index probability distribution characteristics. The basic concepts and their application in composite power system reliability evaluation are illustrated by application to a small practical test system. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDLI provides user group-specific services such as Examination Preparatory for School and College students and job aspirants. Services for Researchers and general learners are also provided. NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
