| Abstract | The small physical sizes of microstrip antennas allow them to be conformally fit into certain physical areas in missile cones, aircraft, spacecraft, etc. Microstrip patch antennas may be shaped in the form of rectangular, circular, annular ring, triangular, elliptical, or spherically-cut geometrical sections. Most of the studies were done on the rectangular and circular patch antennas. The rigorous mathematical equations associated with rectangular and circular patch antennas have been most useful, since these shapes are not irregular; besides, applications for these antennas extend well beyond those of antennas possessing irregular shapes. Input impedance characteristics (analysis by Smith chart) are also easily verified by use of the network analyzer. Anechoic chamber testing of actual microstrip antennas can provide verification of the derived radiated field quantities. |
