| Abstract | A comparison of concept capabilities within the range of interest shows the optimal receiver to be a windowed matrix receiver. The design offers the probability of low production cost, low risk, and compatibility with the most likely identified application, the powering of an advanced (ceramic) Brayton engine to 2600 F. The design permits optional installation of additional thermal buffering mass or a hybrid burner behind the receiver matrix. Thermal buffer (storage) performance would be the best of the several concepts because radiation losses from storage are virtually nonexistent. |
