| Abstract | INTENSE HEATING IS GENERATED IN THE HARTMANN-SPRENGER TUBE BY SHOCK WAVES AND BY FRICTION OF THE OSCILLATING GAS AGAINST THE TUBE WALLS. THIS HEAT IS REMOVED CHIEFLY BY MASS EXCHANGE BETWEEN THE HOT GAS IN THE TUBE AND THE COLD GAS OF THE JET, BUT FORCED CONVECTION INSIDE THE TUBE IS ALSO IMPORTANT. EQUILIBRIUM TEMPERATURE OF THE HOT GAS CAN BE CALCULATED BY THE THEORY DEVELOPED HERE. |
