| Abstract | Methods of calculating instantaneous and average energy flows and a newly defined concept of energy velocity are used in place of the conventional Maxwellian field strength method of characterizing the behavior of electromagnetic fields. The approach is applied to waveguides, providing an interpretation of dispersion and vortex phenomena, and to rod antennas, providing an interpretation of their near field patterns and effective areas. |
