| Description | In the mid-1980's, Langley developed a polyimide sulfone, combining desirable properties of two classes of polymers. Composites and other products made from polyimide sulfone can be used with solvents and corrosive fluids, are light weight, low cost and can be easily fabricated for a wide range of industrial uses. High Technology Systems, Inc. obtained a license for the polymer and was awarded a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract for development in a powder form. Although its principal use is as a matrix resin for composites, the material can also be used as a high temperature structural adhesive for aircraft structures and as a coating for protection from heat and radiation for electronic components. |
