| Description | Measurements have been made of the stability characteristics of the D-558-1 airplane in steadily increasing sideslip at various Mach numbers from 0.50 to 0.80 at 10,000 feet altitude and at Mach numbers from 0.50 to 0.84 at 30,000 feet altitude. The results of these tests show that the apparent directional stability of the airplane is high and increases with increasing Mach number and dynamic pressure. The dihedral effect is positive at all speeds, there is little or no change in pitching moment with sideslip, and the cross-wind force is positive. |
