| Description | The use of several simple theoretical modelling approaches in simulating lava erosion were evaluated. Both one dimensional and two dimensional models were used with the two dimensional model being superior. The two dimensional model accounts, in a purely phenomenological way, for the effects of turbulence and mechanical erosion in a flow. Criteria for mechanical erosion was related to the basal stress and the effect of entrained eroded material on fluid properties was parameterized. |
