| Description | The use of satellite-based, world-wide data collection and location systems for scientific purposes is discussed. The configuration of satellite borne data handling equipment to prevent premature saturation and to provide maximum capacity without degradation of performance is described. An analysis of a data collection and location system based on random time and frequency access to the satellite was conducted. The subjects presented are: (1) a general description of the concept of a random access system, (2) the quantitative characteristics of random access systems, and (3) the development of a model for comparing the various types of digital communications systems. |
