| Description | The space shuttle is described as a vehicle which combines the advantages of airplanes and spacecraft, capable of repeatedly flying to space and back to earth. It will takeoff vertically, powered by two solid propellant boosters, which will be parachuted to earth at an altitude of about 40 km, for retrieval. New uses of space flight are anticipated as costs decrease, turn-around times shorten, and operations simplified. Color illustrations of the concepts are included. |
