| Description | An experimental investigation was conducted in a five-second zero gravity facility to examine the effects of venting initially saturated Refrigerant 11 from a cylindrical container (15-cm diameter) under reduced gravitational conditions. The system Bond numbers studied were 0 (weightlessness), 9 and 63; the liquid exhibited a nearly zero-degree contact angle on the container surface. During the venting process, both liquid-vapor interface and liquid bulk vaporization occurred. The temperature of the liquid in the immediate vicinity of the liquid-vapor interface was found to decrease during venting, while the liquid bulk temperature remained constant. Qualitative observations of the effects of system acceleration, vent rate, and vapor volume presented. Quantitative information concerning the ullage pressure decay during low gravity venting is also included. |
