| Abstract | Stebbins (1992) defined serious leisure as the systematic pursuit of amateur, hobbyist, or volunteer activity that is substantial and interesting for the participants involved. This study investigated associations between serious leisure and sport tourism using Indiana Senior Games participants. This study used a self-report questionnaire to assess if indicators of sport tourism discriminate between high and low serious leisure participants (N = 218). Discriminant function analysis was used to discriminate group differences between high and low serious leisure participants. Miles travelled, number of people in the group, and amount of training were the most important discriminating variables for serious leisure. (Contains 3 tables.) |
