| Abstract | Unit Commitment Problem (UCP) in powersystem refers to the problem of determining the on/ offstatus of generating units that minimize the operating costduring a given time horizon. Since various system andgeneration constraints are to be satisfied while finding theoptimum schedule, UCP turns to be a constrainedoptimization problem in power system scheduling.Numerical solutions developed are limited for small systemsand heuristic methodologies find difficulty in handlingstochastic cost functions associated with practical systems.This paper models Unit Commitment as a multi stagedecision making task and an efficient ReinforcementLearning solution is formulated considering minimum uptime /down time constraints. The correctness and efficiencyof the developed solutions are verified for standard testsystems |
