| Abstract | This longitudinal study investigated the acquisition of aspect marker ze2 and post-verbal particles jyun4r dou2? saai3 and maai4 and their relationships with lexical aspects. The language samples of eight normal Cantonese-speaking children with MLU between 1.660 to 4.447 were obtained in naturalistic contexts over a period of one year. Results showed that children's competence in using ZQ2 andjyun4 increased with MLU but not for dou2> saai3 and maai4. Clear combination patterns ofjyun4 and dou2 with lexical semantics had been discovered but the findings for ZQ2 contradicted previous studies, which would be further discussed. The different relationships between these post-verbal forms and lexical aspects were believed to contribute to their distinctive usage by the children. 3 |
