| Abstract | This article examines an issue which is very frequently cited as motivation for the use of mixed reality in computerized entertainment. Although digital entertainment (such as computer games) can provide many enjoyable experiences that physical, human-centered entertainment can not, many desirable aspects of humanistic interaction get lost in the transition. When entertainment is constrained to the digital realm, “Thousands of human interactions such as gestures, physical movements, tangible touch and eye contact are totally lost. ” In this manner, players are robbed of some of the most enjoyable aspects of interactive entertainment; the ability to enjoy it with family and friends and to socialize with others. This issue is examined through the investigation of five research prototyped systems, each of which use mixed reality in conjunction with other emergent technologies to allow for physical and social interaction within the context of a digital environment. The motivation for this paper is very well written; It makes a convincing arguing as for why entertainment is important to our society and worthy of discussion.
