| Description | We propose and analyze an FDDI-Based Reconfigumble Network (FBRN), with the aim of providing fault-tolerant real-time communication services in mission-critical systems. An FBRN consists of multiple FDDI tmnk rings and has the ability to reconfigure itself in the face of extensive damage. We discuss diflerent fault management mechanisms built into the network and analyze their impact on available bandwidth. Our results demonstrate that the FBRN network achieves dmmatic improvements in available bandwidth. Thus, the network has minimal degradation in its real-time performance when faults occur. 1 |
