| Abstract | The study investigated the characteristic strength performance of eggshell ash (ESA) and palm oil fuel ash (POFA) blended cement in concrete. The Eggshells and palm oil residue were randomly sourced from bakeries and local mills. The materials were sun-dried and burnt in air. Cement in concrete was partially substituted by both ashes to form their cement blends at 0%, 10 % and 20%. Eggshell-Palm oil fuel ashes cement blend concrete at 10 % and 20 % by weight of the cement were examined. Their performance was evaluated against a plain concrete mix. A total of 84 concrete cubes of 100mm×100mm×100mm sizes were investigated at 7, 14, 21 and 28days. A recommended mix of 1:2:4 and water/cement ratio 0.6 was adopted. The results showed that the consistency and setting time decreased with increase in ESA content in the ESA cement blend, the consistency and setting time increased with increase in POFA content and decreased with increase in ESA-POFA content in the cement blend. The plain concrete or control mix and 10 % ESA cement blend gave compressive strengths of 25.5 N/mm 2 and 26.7 N/mm |
