| Abstract | Abstract — We studied several system scenarios for connecting remote antennas to a base station in an 802.11 WLAN network by multimode fiber-optic links and coaxial cable links. The system dynamic range was defined and calculated for the uplink connection. For short distances up to 150 m, passive coax cable links have a ~20 dB higher dynamic range than fiber links at 5.8 GHz, whereas fiber-optic connections utilizing 50 µm multimode fibers can reach long distances up to 1000 m. Realistic component parameters based on measurements were used for the analysis. Index Terms — radio-over-fiber, multimode fiber, |
