| Abstract | In this research, I will examine the acquisition and utilisation of information/knowledge and resources through external relational assets and will see how relational assets will play a role in new product development process through absorptive capacity set as moderator. Drawing from research in social network theory, with a focus on the network content and strength of ties literature the research will be focused on these two aspects of organisational assets. Based on RBV (Resource Based View) theory adaptation in marketing literature as well as Relational view, I will try to see how relational external assets will affect new product development process. By looking at both intellectual and relational assets I will look at how external assets ( relational) with different network content and relational embeddedness will affect different stages of new product development considering the fact that internal intellectual assets (the absorptive capacity) might have a moderating affect on the process.. The “absorptive capacity ” of firms determines their ability to acquire and utilise external knowledge and are internal assets to the firm.
