| Abstract | Time-frequency reassignment is a relatively old but under-explored method for time frequency analysis. This report reviews previous research on reassignment and relates it to instantaneous frequency in an explicit and novel way. New measures based on reassignment of the amplitude spectrum, as opposed to the traditional phase spectrum, are proposed and analysed. The statistical properties of reassignment as a sinusoidal estimator are compared with the Cramer-Rao bound and finally some applications of reassignment in the field of musical analysis are proposed. |
