| Abstract | This paper proposes an alternative approach to the standard approach to teaching economic development. The intended audience for this course is masters ’ level business students, particularly MBA students. This approach discards the standard approach, as I understand it, which involves covering a set of essentially separate topics, such as economic history, growth theory, international trade, demographic issues, etc. as they apply to the less developed countries of Africa, Asia, and Latin America. In the approach I discuss here, the course focuses on alternative approaches to combating global poverty, and more importantly, on how business managers can take a leadership role in the fight against global poverty.
