| Abstract | This paper describes a number of strategic and tactical interventions that were employed in the School of Electronics in the last four academic years to improve student retention, and assesses their effectiveness. Tactical interventions proved to be effective with student withdrawals reduced from 16.8 % in 1999/2000 to 9.3 % in 2000/2001. The introduction of strategic measures such as applicant day and interview process prior to making offers further improved student retention with losses of 6.5 % and 7.2 % reported in 2001/2002 and 2002/2003 respectively. |
