| Abstract | The Shastra WAN collaborative architecture provides a highly flexible infrastructure for sophisticated WAN based collaborative network computing. The architecture is being used to create powerful collaborative scientific visualization applications that can be used througout the Internet. This document presents an explanation of the architecture describing the flexibility of the system, relates the architecture to prior work on similar systems highlighting the flexibility of the architecture, and shows how this flexibility enhances the capabilities of scientific visualization by presenting a sample application. 1 Introduction Scientific visualization is the process of using computer graphics to view or explore 3D objects, natural phenomenon, or complex data[26]. It has a history of significant contribution to many areas in science and engineering. Collaborative scientific visualization enhances this process by allowing remote users to interact in the visual study of these phenomena. Al... |
