| Abstract | This paper reports the initial findings from a longitudinal study on the phonological awareness skills and word reading abilities of 73 Indonesian children from Grade 1. Children were tested on syllable detection, syllable deletion, onset detection, rhyme detection, phoneme deletion, letter identification, word reading and non-word reading.
