| Abstract | SL RNA trans-splicing so far has been described in seven eukaryotic phyla. A careful re-evaluation of predicted SL RNA secondary structures reveils striking similarities among Euglenida, Kinetoplastida, Dinophyceae, cnidarians, rotifers, nematods, platyhelminths and tunicates. Together with conserved sequence motifs, our analysis suggests an early common origin of spliced leader trans-splicing. Key words: |
