| Abstract | An XF VLBI correlator system has been developed in Canada for the purpose of supporting S2 Space VLBI observations in the Japanese led [1] VSOP program and for the purpose of supporting the Canadian Geodetic VLBI program. The correlator interfaces to S2 [2] playback machines consisting of an array of 8 VHS transports providing 128 Mbits/sec of recording bandwidth with recording times up to 8.5 hours in a portable and cost effective configuration. The system has been designed specifically to meet Space VLBI signal processing requirements but it contains unique capabilities for frequency switched bandwidth synthesis, fast dumping for pulsar observations, and multi-rate digital signal processing techniques for sample rate translation and high resolution spectral line processing. |
