| Abstract | The Design Change Notice (DCN) process at Volvo Powertrain Skövde Plant is an administrative process with the purpose of introducing design changes in the production of diesel engines. The process is dependent on actions from several external stakeholders, to Skövde Plant, and the process must coordinate its activities with respect to subcontractors, purchasing functions, different development teams and production processes in the Volvo group. At present time, both employees working in the process and persons not directly involved in the DCN process at Skövde Plant experience disturbances related to the design change introductions. There is a feeling that problems are out of control and that no local and simple solution exists to the disturbances. This has created a low trust for the process and an urgent request to improve its performance. However, how to approach improvements is debated and the opinions go apart what actions to pursue.
