Se dan recomendaciones para su cultivo en condiciones de temporal, de humedad residual con base en esquemas de riego y de riego en cuanto a los siguientes aspectos: preparacion del suelo; var.; cantidad de semilla requerida; epoca de siembra; fertilizantes; poblacion de plantas y espaciamiento; control de enfermedades, plagas y malezas; desgrane; almacenamiento; cultivos asociados con maiz o en rotacion con tabaco; calidad de la semilla y manejo del agua.
