| Abstract | Transient flow analysis with moving mesh in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) has become useful and popular. However, in many practical applications, the uses of moving mesh are restricted by the geometric complexity. This paper carried out transient flow analysis of incompressible fluid through safety valve of complicated geometry in three dimensions by using moving mesh. To deal with the complex geometry of safety valve, some novel techniques of mesh generation and modeling are used to ensure the model of safety valve’s disc can move upward and downward successfully without negative volume. Then several constant inlet pressures are given to simulate the safety valve under different overpressure conditions. Herein, the response parameters including the displacement of disc, fluid flux through the valve, fluid force applied on the disc are calculated and monitored. Through analysis of these data, this work demonstrates clearly behavior of safety valve, and will help the researcher improve the design of safety valve in the future. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
