Abstract Use statistics indicate that the consumption and sharing of multimedia content takes up an increasingly large percentage of people's time spent online. While our technologies and services advance, we still have very little understanding of the underlying psychological, social and cultural drivers that underlie the choice to share (or not), nor for what drives people's content, format and channel preferences. Here, I pose questions that I will address in an invited presentation at the International Workshop on Socially-Aware Multimedia, an event at ACM Multimedia 2012.
