Glooveth: healthy living with an innovative gameplay

Abstract	There are just a few Serious Games taking real advantage of Natural Interaction and Innovative devices for the sake of their Gameplay renewal. Glooveth, an educational game for children aged 6-12, is one of them. The game teaches healthy living by means of controlling a tiny character that needs to eat well in order to evolve. Kids can control the main character by using three different peripherals: a mouse, a Virtual Reality dataglove and a homemade WiiMote-based inexpensive glove. These provide users with intense gameplay experiences while ensuring the learning capabilities of our tool. This paper explains the project from its concept creation to the final execution, through its application and the needed usability testing/playtesting. Glooveth won the Silver Award within the Global eHealth Challenge organized by the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at Memphis, Tennessee (US) in 2010.
