| Abstract | An OPCON computer system is a facility required to support the strategic requirements of a command to maintain, update, compute, and retrieve data on a demand basis. This is effectively an on-line data handling system. The basic design principles of an Operations Control Center computer system require certain capabilities of performance, reliability, response, and capacity. A discussion of the equipment complex provided to meet these requirements is given in reference 1. This facility is a multi-computer configuration of some 3 to 12 computers of two different types, linked to some 25 to 100 peripheral devices via a special sub-system switch as shown schematically in Figure 1. A computer in this context is a conventional digital computer without its peripheral devices and their particular controllers. It includes processor, core storage, and input-output channels. In order for such a large complex of equipment to work together efficiently, it is necessary to provide special hardware facilities and special programs. In particular, one of several of the computers may be manually switched to become a control computer. This computer has direct control over the Subsystem switch and can connect any set of peripheral devices to a selected channel of any computer. In effect, the complete system can be decomposed into a number of separate subsystems, each being a computer with its input-output channels switched to a chosen set of peripheral devices. There is no time-sharing in the system. Everything is space-shared. Each central processor at one time has its own permanent core store, its own permanent input-output channels, and its own temporary set of peripheral devices. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDLI provides user group-specific services such as Examination Preparatory for School and College students and job aspirants. Services for Researchers and general learners are also provided. NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
