A research agenda for service-oriented architecture

Content Provider ACM Digital Library
Author Smith, Dennis B. Kontogiannis, Kostas Lewis, Grace A.
Abstract It is clear that Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) is having a substantial impact on the way software systems are developed. However, although significant progress is being made in several fronts, current efforts seem to evolve in many directions. There is danger that important research needs will be overlooked, while other efforts will focus on issues of peripheral long-term significance in practice. As a research community that has gone through a substantial "growth spurt" we find ourselves facing a great opportunity and challenge: to better channel our research efforts, we should attempt to reflect upon our progress to date and recognize how our efforts and results build on each other, and to identify--and potentially prioritize--the areas that we still need to investigate. The purpose of this work is to provide a long-term consensus SOA research agenda, classified into research issues pertaining to the business, engineering and operation aspects of service-oriented systems, plus a set of cross-cutting aspects. An additional goal is to assemble an international research group to analyze the current state of the practice and current research initiatives in SOA and create a community of interest around SOA research to share results and ideas on how to improve SOA adoption and the development of service-oriented systems.

About National Digital Library of India (NDLI)
NDLI logo

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDLI provides user group-specific services such as Examination Preparatory for School and College students and job aspirants. Services for Researchers and general learners are also provided. NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
