| Abstract | After some years of progress in application-centered research, ubiquitous computing has now gained ground in the organizational world. Indeed, organizations are increasingly dependent on assemblages of embedded, mobile, and stationary technologies that innovate business propositions and increase customer value. This talk will focus on the nature and role of architectural knowledge in implementation and use of ubiquitous computing environments. In particular, four dimensions of architectural knowledge will be identified: • Technology capability awareness refers to actors' perception of the service capability of a specific IT component. • Use context sensitivity refers to the understanding of work contexts in which a specific IT component is typically deployed. • Business model understanding refers to the appreciation of business opportunities afforded by applications of a specific IT component. • Boundary-spanning competence refers to practical skills and resources for engaging in collective efforts to develop architectural knowledge. Drawing on the four dimensions of architectural knowledge, the talk will outline theoretical and strategy implications for development of computing environments capable of serving the goals of heterogeneous actors and technologies. A first implication concerns why different types of architectural configurations promote and/or undermine individual actors' ability to control ubiquitous computing innovation. A second implication concerns how creation of trading zones may allow for actors to meet and negotiate alignment of technologies. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDLI provides user group-specific services such as Examination Preparatory for School and College students and job aspirants. Services for Researchers and general learners are also provided. NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
