Keynote: current and future challenges of trustworthy sensor networks

| Abstract | The talk will discuss possible solutions for building trustworthy Wireless Sensor and Actuator Networks (WSAN)s. Among these are techniques from the Trusted Computing area, such as Remote Attestation or the usage of trusted anchors or Physically Uncloneable Fuctions (PUF) on the nodes to ensure the sensor environment is in a state it is expected to be. New protocols and cryptographic mechanisms have to be developed to offer a new level of fault tolerance, trust and reputation of the network. Open questions to be solved in the near future also include the possibility of Homomorphic Encryption, so that the trustworthiness does not rely anymore on a single or small amount of attached sensor nodes, but is divided to a bigger number of nodes. Thus, a modification or attack becomes more difficult. Several regional, European and international projects currently target these security issues. First reasonable results and implementations in the field are installed and tested recently. If successful over a long time, the developed systems will dramatically increase the security. |
