Abstract	Social networking is a powerful tool for people to interact amongst each other based on common interests. More and more professional social networks are being developed based on user specific needs. Environment and environmental sciences have also been the focus of the society for the last decade due to the issues such as global warming, oil spills etc. In order to increase community awareness of the functioning and significance of coastal ecosystem and increase the number of underrepresented minority scientists in the STEM workforce, NOAA (National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration) established five cooperative science centers. Data is collected at various sites from different centers and then analyzed to evaluate critical attributes of ecosystems. In this project, we will design the framework of a dedicated environmental science social network, called Connecting Atmospheric & Oceanic Sciences ("CAOS"). CAOS will provide researchers with a portal where they can share ideas, information and data amongst their peers. In addition, CAOS will also bring exposure to the centers and the ongoing projects which could further interest the underrepresented minority students in STEM majors.
