Abstract	The 36 papers in this proceedings represent talks given at the Third ACM SIGACT-SIGMOD Symposium on Principles of Database Systems, which was held April 2-4, 1984, in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. They were selected at a meeting of the Program Committee on December 2, 1983, from 107 papers submitted in response to the Call for Papers. Although members of the Program Committee read them, the papers were not formally refereed. The papers generally represent preliminary reports of continuing research. It is anticipated that most of these papers will appear in more polished form in scientific journals.
