This year the MDM series has reached anew milestone with MDM 2005 taking place for the first time inEurope. Cyprus is a member State of the European Union. The firstconferences in the MDM series took place in Hong Kong, MDM 2002 inSingapore, MDM 2003 in Australia, and MDM 2004 in Berkeley, CA ofUSA.As the past MDM conferences, MDM 2005 promises to be veryexciting and successful, attracting large internationalparticipation of researchers and practitioners from databases, networking, and mobile computing communities. The three ProgramCo-Chairs, Alex Delis (University of Athens, Greece), Ouri Wolfson(University of Illinois at Chicago), and Arkady Zaslavsky (MonashUniversity, Australia), have put together an excellent andselective program. The research program is enhanced by industrialand demo sessions, as well as with four tutorials. It also includestwo keynote speeches and two panels focusing on the challenges inthe presence of mobility (of users and devices). Our specialappreciation to our keynote speakers, Joao Da Silva from theEuropean Commission and Jari Veijalainen from the University ofJyvaskyla, Finalnd. We own our sincere gratitude to all the peoplewho contributed in assembling such a high quality program: thethree PC Co-Chairs and the members of their technical programcommittee, the Industrial Track Chair Apratim Purakayastha (IBMResearch, USA) along with industrial track reviewers, the DemoCo-Chairs Avigdor Gal (Technion University, Israel) and Vijay Kumar(University of Missouri at Kansas City), the Tutorials ChairChristian Becker (University of Stuttgart, Germany) and the PanelChair Evi Pitoura (University of Ioannina, Greece).Besides coming to Europe for the first time, another new eventat MDM this year is the introduction of specialized single-dayworkshops which are co-located with the MDM conference. Twoworkshops were selected to complement the MDM 2005: ManagingContext Information in Mobile and Pervasive Environments (MCMP05)and Semantics in Mobile Environments (SME05). Consistent with theMDM tradition, the organizers of the two workshops have puttogether a common, single-track research program consisting of highquality papers. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDLI provides user group-specific services such as Examination Preparatory for School and College students and job aspirants. Services for Researchers and general learners are also provided. NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
