NDLI: Location-Based Taxi Service in Wireless Communication Environment

Abstract	The convergence of multiple technologies, including the Internet,wireless communications, geographic information system, locationtechnologies, and mobile devices, has given rise to newtypes of information utilities that may be referred as mobilelocation-based services (LBS). LBS can be described as applicationsthat exploit knowledge about where an information device(user) is located. This paper presents a new approach to the taxiassignment problem in a mobile environment based on optimizationand simulation. Our specific interest is to predict the impactof the interaction between the assignment algorithm and fleet managementin the mobile environment on the desired quality of servicefor the mobile users. The paper also discusses the currentapproach and limitations of the new approach and some simulationresults, such as average transport time and unserved mobileusers average. Finally, we present some conclusions.
