| Abstract | We are very pleased to welcome you to the 2012 Workshop on Measurements Up and Down the STack (W-MUST). This year's workshop, its second incarnation, has a more interactive feel to it with a focus on panel sessions and discussion among participants. We hope that this will encourage a lively event, providing a unique opportunity for members of two traditionally quite distinct communities, computer networking and human-computer interaction (HCI), to engage with each other. We believe that this type of engagement is crucial to pushing both fields forward. The workshop comes at a time when computer networks have become commonplace in everyday life, and increasingly non-experts are required to manage and control various computing infrastructures. This entails cooperation and interaction between researchers and designers who understand users, their needs, and the techniques necessary to evaluate user technologies; and those who understand how to design and implement infrastructure technology driven by careful measurement and data gathering. For us therefore, "Up and Down the Stack" refers to the technology stack in its broadest sense. We hope that this workshop can be continued in the future, to support and generate even greater engagement between communities. |
